How We Estimate Childcare Costs
We believe Indianapolis parents deserve pricing transparency. Here's exactly how we calculate our estimates — and how providers can set the record straight.
Our 3-Step Estimation Model
Every price estimate on IndyDaycares uses three layers of real data — never guesswork.
Start With the Base Rate
We look at the provider's type (daycare center, home daycare, or ministry-based) and the age of child being cared for. Different types of care have different cost structures — infant care at a licensed center costs more than preschool at a ministry program.
Adjust for Quality Rating
Indiana's Paths to QUALITY program rates providers on a scale of 1 to 4. Higher-rated programs typically invest more in teacher training, curriculum, and facilities — and their tuition reflects that. We shift the estimate within the base range accordingly.
Adjust for Location
Childcare costs vary across Indianapolis neighborhoods. Providers on the north side and in suburbs like Carmel and Fishers tend to charge more than south or east side providers. We fine-tune the estimate based on where the provider is located.
Important: All estimates labeled "Market Estimate" are approximations based on public data and statistical modeling. They are not quoted prices from the provider. Actual tuition may differ based on enrollment schedules, sibling discounts, subsidy participation, and program-specific fees. Always contact a provider directly to confirm current rates.
What the Confidence Labels Mean
Not all prices on IndyDaycares are equal. We use a three-tier system so you always know how reliable the number is.

Better data helps everyone — parents, providers, and our community.
Every time a provider updates their pricing, it makes our estimates more accurate for similar providers — which helps more parents — which brings more families to IndyDaycares — which gives providers more reason to keep their listing current.
